Independence Day Celebrations
Today is Friday, August 14, 2009. It has been 62 years since Pakistan’s independence and the entire nation is celebrating it with the same zeal and enthusiasm like ever. The day dawned with thirty-one gun salute at federal and twenty-one gun salute at the provincial capitals. Special prayers offered at the mosques all over the country for the peace, prosperity and solidarity of Pakistan. At 7 am, the traffic stopped for two minutes. Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani addressed the nation live after he led impressive flag hoisting ceremony while national anthem was being played at Jinnah Conventional Center Islamabad. He talked on the strategies he will be working on the coming year and was telling about the progress of until now since his government took over. Number of functions were arranged to celebrate the day by different organizations, educational institutes, social and literary societies highlighting the Pakistani movement and struggle of the heroes of the movement.
